KALYRA is a carbon ecosystem initiative in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, focused on forest restoration, climate mitigation, and community empowerment. The name stands for Kalimantan Alliance for Land Yield Restoration and Adaptation.

Kalimantan Alliance for Land Yield Restoration and Adaptation. It represents our commitment to restoring and protecting forest landscapes through credible climate action while creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.

Muvun Balan is a philosophy from the Kenyah language, an East Kalimantan Dayak tribe, meaning "Restoring the Path of Life Together." It emphasizes the community aspect of the project — a respectful reference to the Dayak tribe's philosophy of togetherness and the nurturing of one's home out of remembrance for our ancestral roots.

KALYRA is designed as a carbon ecosystem rather than a standalone carbon project. Many projects stop at carbon — KALYRA goes further, guided by climate integrity, community prosperity, and long-term stewardship. Every decision integrates forest restoration, gender mainstreaming, biodiversity conservation, and transparent blockchain-based governance.

KALYRA is being developed under the Verra VM0047 methodology for Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR). The project comprises 32 annual planting cohorts of approximately 1,000 ha each, within a 40-year crediting horizon, with an estimated carbon production of 269,920 – 402,770 tCO2e/year.

The project is located in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, within the Heart of Borneo National Strategic Area. The concession spans 36,247.66 hectares, with 32,263.10 hectares eligible for carbon project activities.

KALYRA is committed to full transparency and accountability through integration into a Carbon Ecosystem Blockchain that will be accessible to all, free of charge. This ensures every credit can be traced and verified independently.

KALYRA places community empowerment at its core through gender mainstreaming initiatives, partnerships with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for healthcare access, essential goods distribution, and employment creation. We estimate approximately 15,000 jobs over the 40-year project timeline, with special attention to women and children.
